Looking forward to winter vacation? Count down the days using this fun reading tip.
Gather all your winter and holiday books.
Wrap them up like presents and put them in a special place such as a basket or shelf.
Choose one book each day to unwrap and enjoy together until the big day arrives.
Don't have enough books on your topic?
Check some out of the library.
Want to make it even more exciting?
Purchase a new book secretly and mix it in with the other familiar books.
Have older kids?
Skip the wrapping and choose a chapter book to read from together each day.
Want to go green?
Skip the wrapping and put all the books in one big box.
Cut a slit to reach through to draw books out (no peeking!)

Or use recyclable materials such as newspaper, pillowcases,
towels, or t-shirts to creatively wrap the books.
Another Fun (and funny) Family Reading Suggestion
"Shop" at the library for each other. It won't cost anything. Take a family trip to the library and pick out books for each other. Be sure to bring along some recyclable shopping bags so you can keep your presents hidden while shopping and checking them out. Then have fun exchanging them at home. You can be silly or serious with this game. You can wrap them like presents or just bring them out of your bags at the right time. Then have a little family quiet time to expore your new literary gifts!
